The Neon Yak
£10.00

Daniel Cooper lives in the wooded hills of suburban Surrey, close enough to the city to hear the motorway and the airport. It’s the mid-1980s, and he’s growing up at a time in which it really isn’t comfortable to be gay. There’s homophobia in the press, and attitudes aren’t as open-minded as they could be. Consequently, Daniel Cooper suppresses his true self from himself, let alone others. As luck would have it, his imaginary friend is a drag queen called Tina Afterburner, who tries to persuade Daniel that he is who he is. Daniel, on the other hand, has put his faith in a local mythological entity, the Neon Yak, a glimpse of which is said to herald change and bring on, he believes, his obvious hetereosexuality. This novel is about Daniel’s journey into young adulthood and his quest to catch a glimpse of the Neon Yak.
